Lil Wayne Interview: He speaks out about Racism
Lil Wayne, born September 27, 1982 as Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., is a rapper, songwriter, record exec, businessman, actor and singer. Many of his peers think of him as the biggest hip hop artist of his time. He began his rap career at the age of 12. He first started as a duo with rapper B.G., who was first known as Lil Doogie.
Their first album was “True Story”, where Wayne recorded three tracks under the name Baby D. His next venture was with the southern hip hop groups “Hot Boys” with Juvenile, Turk and Lil Doogie. Their first album was “Get it How U Live!” The group became popular with their next album “Guerrilla Warfare” with their song “Bling Bling”.
Lil Wayne released his first solo album “Tha Block is Hot” in 1999. He followed with “Tha Carter” in 2004 and “Tha Carter II” in 2005, where he began to rise to fame. Throughout his career, Lil Wayne sold over 120 million records., which makes him one of the world’s greatest selling musical artists. He has won various awards, including five Grammys, 4 Billboards, 11 BETs, 2 MTV Music and 8 NAACP Image awards. Today, he is the CEO of Young Money Entertainment, his own record label.
In his personal life, Lil Wayne has four kids. His first child, daughter Reginae, born November 29, 1998 when Wayne was 16 years old, who he had with his high school girlfriend Toya Johnson. They were married for 2 years, from 2004 to 2006.
Recently, Lil Wayne was engaged to plus-size model Denise Bidot. It is rumored that the engagement was called off in May 2020, because of his endorsement of President Donald Trump.
Lil Wayne is known for his tattoos. He got his first when he was 14 years old of his dad’s name. His second tattoo is across his stomach “Cash Money”. He also has a verse from Jay-Z on his leg, “I Am Music” on his forehead and on his cheeks, teardrops, to name a few. “Baked” was recently added to his forehead to represent a skateboard logo. Wayne considers himself a religious man, identifying with Roman Catholic. He reads the Bible regularly.
He claims that one of his hugest influences as a child musically is the band Nirvana.
