Let’s Review Creed 1 & 2 Synopsis

Creed 1 Synopsis

The movie opens in 1998 with Adonis “Donnie” Johnson in an LA youth detention center. Donnie fights with another boy after the boy disrespects Donnie’s late mother. Donnie’s pulled into his cell and visited by a woman that he thinks is another social worker. But it’s Mary Annie Creed – Apollo’s widow. She wants to take him in.

Fast forward to present day in Tijuana. Donnie is boxing in a match and wins with ease. Not more than 12 hours later, Donnie is back in LA at a desk job. He resigns then goes to the gym where Apollo used to train – Delphi Gym. He challenges everybody in the gym to a fight with the prize his Mustang. He knocks down the first guy but the 2nd guy, Wheeler, wins and takes his keys. Mary Anne doesn’t want him fighting like his dad. But after watching an old match of Apollo and Rocky, Donnie mimics his dad’s moves.

Donnie moves to Philly to start his boxing career – never giving in that he’s Apollo’s son. When he watching the news, he learns that Ricky Conlan may be going to jail, and Conlan broke his opponent Wheeler’s jaw. Loud music from the apartment below is keeping Donnie from getting sleep. When he confronts his neighbor, he meets Bianca, a beautiful musician. He pursues her and finds out she has progressive hearing loss.

Donnie visits Rocky at Adrian’s Restaurant. He asks Rocky to train him but Rocky declines. Donnie goes to another gym run by Pete Sporino and picks up the nickname “Hollywood”. He doesn’t give up on pursuing Rocky. After Rocky visits the graves of Adrian and Paulie, he decides to take Donnie on. He also takes in Donnie and the two get close, with Donnie calling him “Unc”.Donnie’s first fight is Leo, Pete’s son. Pete learned that Donnie is Apollo’s son and wants to get press with it. Rocky wants to keep it a secret.

Donnie beats Leo. It gets out about Apollo’s affair. Conlon learns this and thinks this would be a great fight. Rocky and Donnie agree to the match.Donnie’s training intensifies. Rocky learns that he has Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, but it was good they caught it early. Rocky refuses chemo because what it did to Adrian.

Donnie fears that now everyone knows he’s Creed’s son, he’ll look a failure to his dad’s legacy. He gets into a fight when Bianca’s performing when he’s called “Baby Creed”. Donnie’s arrested and bailed out by Rocky. Donnie apologizes to Bianca but she shuts him out.Rocky and Donnie compromise – Rocky gets chemo and Donnie trains hard for the UK fight. He gets a lot of support from the neighbor, especially the kids.

At a fight press conference, Conlan trash talk and Rocky holds Donnie back. The night before the fight, Bianca shows up to offer support. Mary Anne sends Donnie Apollo’s original USA flag boxing shorts but watches the match from home. At first the fans boo Donnie and cheer on Conlan. Donnie’s cut deep above the eye, and the first round is won by Conlan. Donnie gets in some hits but not enough to win the crowd.

Rocky’s encouragement isn’t enough. Donnie gets hit hard and now is eye is completely shut. Conlan knocks Donnie down. Donnie has a revelation and gets up fast. He hits Conlan many times and knocks him to the ground. Conlan gets up before the 10 count and wins the fight. He gives Donnie respect. Donnie expresses his love for Rocky and Apollo. The fans chant “Creed”. He leaves with Rocky and Biana.

The movie ends in Philly on the steps of the Philly Museum of Art. Donnie and a winded Rocky and admire the city.

It’s three years after the Conlan loss in 2018. Donnie has won six straight fights with his trainer Rocky, including a win over Wheeler giving him the WBC World Heavyweight Championship and his Mustang. Donnie proposes to Bianca, who want to move to LA, but Donnie doesn’t want to leave Philly and Rocky.
